Safety
At Holmes Electric Co., we are committed to safety as a principal mindset that must never be compromised. We include safety into every facet of every project, from the early phases of preconstruction to project commissioning and closeout. We are dedicated to building a culture of wellbeing where everyone involved in the project takes ownership of the safety process.
In spite of a steadily increasing number of employee hours worked, Holmes Electric has been able to maintain an Experience Modification Rating (EMR) well below the national average. We are currently operating at a rate of .6766, with a four year average of .6893. We are working diligently to improve our record with personal safety equipment, on-going safety training and education, and through building awareness about safety related issues with all employees.
We believe that success in decreasing accidents lies in planning ahead. With the assistance of our Safety Director, each project team develops a site specific Safety Plan to be used in crew training, team building and the promotion of an accident-free workplace. Additionally, general safety training measures are employed on a regular basis for new employees and veterans alike.
Our safety objectives include:
- Promoting the safety of each employee
- Eliminating personal injury
- Rewarding recommendations for improvement to safety companywide
- Creating individual and team responsibility for the safety program on every project
- Maintaining an up to date, comprehensive Safety Training Manual that includes best practices for both education and reference
Holmes Electric Company has been a proud participant in the SMART Dream Team ever since our application was approved in 2005.
The SMART Dream Team is a select group of participants that are recognized as industry leaders in construction safety. Each Dream Team participant is committed to lowering our Experience Modification Rating (EMR), and the premiums paid up-front to the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. Lower costs are achieved through proactive claim management, safe job sites, and dedication to a company-wide safety culture.
