Thanks to a lot of hard working and determined field and office staff, we have received approved final inspections for the electrical and fire alarm/smoke control systems in the Phase 1 Parking Garage/Retail and Tower 1 areas. This is a big deal. If you're not familiar with smoke control as the City of Bellevue (CoB) defines it, it is a very complicated system. The fire alarm system must integrate and control all of the appropriate mechanical systems in the event of a fire. The CoB employs the “sandwich” method of smoke control wherein, the floor above and below the actual fire floor must pressurize to contain the smoke to the fire

floor. This involves a lot of equipment, wiring, programming and patience. All wiring, power and fire alarm/smoke control, must also be “survivable”, aka two-hour protected.

We now focus our attention to Tower 2 and Phase 2. Tower 2 is unique, in that the fire alarm/smoke control system testing is broken into two segments, low rise and high rise, with separate completion dates three months apart. Scheduled job completion is September 2009.
