July 22, 2008
(Courtesy of the DJC) - The grand opening of Westfield Southcenter's $240 million expansion is set for Friday. The 400,000-square-foot addition is on the south side of the center, with 75 specialty shops, a restaurant “promenade,” a dining terrace with views of Mount Rainier, a 16-screen theater and two parking structures.
Westfield Southcenter has also expanded its family amenities and services such as play space, valet parking, family dining, a concierge center and family lounges.  The shopping center opened in 1968 and was the largest enclosed mall in Washington at that time. It now has 1.7 million square feet, with 200 retail stores.

Construction began in May of 2006. Westfield's in-house architects designed the space. Bayley Construction of Mercer Island was general contractor on the shell and core, JTM Construction built the parking garages, ANF & Associates was structural engineer, CDi Engineers was mechanical engineer and Sparling was electrical engineer.

Pacland was civil engineer, Shannon & Wilson was geotechnical engineer and Olympia's Jeffrey B. Glander & Associates was landscape architect.  Holmes Electric was the electrical contractor.
