Northwest NECA Chapter Steps Up Commitment

Mike Holmes, ELECTRI Council representative for the Puget Sound Chapter sums up the Chapter’s $100,000 commitment (to the EI Foundation), “We had not participated very much in Foundation activities, yet it was obvious that our members were benefiting from the research and education programs.” Holmes attended his first Council meeting this past January and decided to jump right in by becoming involved in two research project task forces. “The Role of Electrical Contractors on LEED Projects is very timely and extremely important for electrical contractors. Few of us understand completely the LEED requirements,” says Holmes. “I hope that my participation on this task force will benefit the overall project and help all of us with this emerging market.” The overall goal of this research project is to enable electrical contractors to become value-added team members on a LEED project with GCs/CMs, owners and designers. The project will focus on electrical contractors’ role in two aspects of the LEED-NC credits where they can be most effective, namely: commissioning and innovative design.
The Puget Sound Chapter was chartered by NECA in 1949. Currently, several Chapter contractors are involved in on of Bellevue, Washington’s largest mixed use projects. With stat-of-the-art infrastructure, the Bravern project consists of two buildings with 750,000 square feet Class-A office space lease to Microsoft.
